It follows
The lighting in the clip of "It Follows" had natural lighting to create the effect of a realistic environment which makes the audience feel as what happens in the scene could be an actual experience. This effect is also created by using the scene of a classroom which creates the sense that it should be a safe space for the character to be in. The sounds in the background also add to this effect because there's natural everyday sounds like buzzing and the teacher talking. the music adds to the scene by starting off slow and then building into a more intense high pitched sound. The use of the camera angles are also beneficial because the use of a pan shot shows the entire environment to show where the scene is taking place. Then later on in the scene the use of a zoom shot is used to zoom in on the old lady which creates tension.
Insidious
The lighting in the clip from "Insidious" is very grey and dark and dull, this creates an effect of a cold environment and that the overall feeling is scary. The sound of the music makes the scene more effective because it continues to build as more parts of the environment are being shown and then the music intensifies when the creature is displayed. The sound of the door creaking as its opening adds to the creepy
atmosphere as in most horror films sound effects that are similar are very effective. The use of the sound of the creature moving is also effective as it makes it more realistic to the scene as the sound proves that the creature is in the room and not just a part of the characters imagination. The music then decreases then begins to build until the creature is seen behind a character which causes the music to become very intense which is effective as it then holds throughout the rest of the scene. The use of the old house and clock creates a eerie feeling because most old fashioned items are mostly thought as haunted or scary. The use of the camera following through the home helps show the audience the environment and as the door opens the camera follows it movement until the creature is shown.
The conjuring
The lighting in the clip from "The conjuring" is very dark and black to begin with and then leads into a lamp being turned on, but the overall colours are still dull, the use of this lighting creates the effect that its a natural setting because the scene takes place in a bedroom and shows the audience that its a realistic scene. The sound then begins when the character can hear a repeated banging. The use of a pan shot helps show the audience what the banging is and reveals that the characters daughter is banging her head against the wardrobe. The sound of the banging before the girl is revealed creates tension and suspense as the audience doesn't know yet what the sound is coming from. The girl is shown to be waring a pyjama dress which adds to the scene as its very boring and dull colours and is similar to the colours of the atmosphere. After the mother puts the girl into bed the banging then continues which creates a sense of worry as the audience thought that the banging was because of the girl. The mother then goes over to the wardrobe and the music starts to build as she is opening the wardrobe. The music then intensifies as the girl in the bed begins to sit up and then the camera zooms in to above the wardrobe where a creature is about to jump onto the mother. The use of the zoom shot is effective as its unexpected and is fast so it gives the audience very little time to prepare.
