The Ellington kid is a short film about two friends one called Nathan and one called Beefy and they are both eating in a kebab shop in the south of London. They both are shown to be sitting down after they got their food and are telling each other what they ordered. After the character beefy says that he got a burger it triggers Nathan about a story about a kid who got stabbed by a gang and then stumbled down an alleyway which leads towards the kebab shop. He reaches the end of the alleyway he came into the kebab shop for help and then the gang follows him into the shop, which also happens to be the kebab shop that they are eating in and the other character is just listening along to the story. Throughout the short film there are a few genres and conventions which show drama, comedy and that its a short film.

In this scene in the Ellington kid shows conventions of a comedy as the Nathan has just explained the story and his friend is eating a burger. At the end of his story he explains how its 3v3 all with the gang with knives and the shop owners with knives and then tells Beefy to use his imagination for the ending and then says "why do you think I'm only eating the chips?" and then smirks which is implying that the meat is the bodies of the people who got killed which causes the friend of the Beefy to spit out his burger which makes the Nathan laugh.

In this scene of the Ellington kid shows conventions of a drama as one of the Nathan in the kebab shop is asking Beefy if he heard about the kid that got stabbed. The scene goes into a flashback of the kid getting stabbed which creates drama by using a sudden flashback which is very short so it makes it very dramatic and shows what the short film will be about.

In this scene of the Ellington kid shows Nathan about to start telling Beefy about the story of the kid getting stabbed. this shows conventions of a short film as it goes straight into the drama and is fast paced so he can tell his story with also included drama by explaining to Beefy that he might not believe it because he didn't at first.

In this scene Nathan is explaining the story and is showing drama as the scene goes into another flashback that shows the kid looking behind him and then the character explains that the gang that stabbed him is behind him. This creates drama because the story is starting to become even more dramatic and the flashbacks are becoming more intense as the short film continues.

In this scene the kid is now in the kebab shop and is on the floor, this also shows drama conventions as the story is now becoming very dramatic and showing the kid bleeding out and how he is very helpless and looking at the shop workers for help. Then a few second later the entire gang comes in with their knives which then the shop owners react to by grabbing their long kebab knives in return.

In this scene Nathan is telling the story and shows the genre of comedy as Nathan is telling this really dramatic story which which takes place literally where their eating whilst Beefy is just eating his burger and is mumbling with food in his mouth and just listening to the story.
